A marble sink is one of the few things in a bathroom that cannot be bought off a shelf and still look right. The veining has to run through the bowl rather than stop at its rim, which means the piece is either carved from one block or built from slab cut so the pattern continues across every mitre. K2 does both at the Rawat works.
Carved basins are cut from a solid block on the CNC and finished by hand. They are heavier, seamless, and the only honest option in a translucent stone like onyx, where a glued joint reads as a dark line the moment light passes through. Fabricated basins are built from 20 mm slab with mitred corners; they weigh far less, cost less, and in an opaque marble the joints disappear entirely once polished.
The practical constraint is not the stone, it is the plumbing. Waste position, tap centres and the thickness of the counter it sits in all have to be settled before cutting, because a marble bowl cannot be adjusted on site. Send the sanitaryware datasheet with the drawing and the cut-out is made to match it.
Marble is a calcium carbonate and will etch where acid sits on it — toothpaste, citrus, some cleaners. In a basin that is a question of habit rather than a defect: rinse and wipe, and use a pH-neutral cleaner. Granite and quartzite are the harder-wearing alternatives if the basin will be used by guests who will not be told twice.
