Not every table needs to be bought whole. A stone top on an existing base is the cheapest way to change a room, and it is the most common cut-to-size job K2 does — replacing a scratched timber top, upgrading a glass one, or finishing a base that came without a surface.
The work is straightforward but the measuring is not, and this is where most orders go wrong. A base that looks square rarely is. Give K2 the base itself, or a template cut from hardboard, rather than a set of dimensions taken with a tape — a 3 mm error on a round top is visible from across the room, and stone cannot be trimmed once cut.
Overhang is the other decision. A top that sits flush with its base looks unfinished; 20 to 40 mm of overhang on each side reads correctly on most tables. Too much and the top looks like it belongs to something larger, and the leverage at the edge starts to matter.
For commercial work — restaurant and café tops — granite and quartz are the sensible choices. They take daily cleaning with commercial products that would ruin a marble within a season, and they are hard enough to survive plates being put down carelessly for years.
